Help Save Queens Bay by asking the BC government
to keep the ferry terminal in Balfour!
Welcome to the Ferry Landing Partnership. The Queens Bay Residents' Association and the Balfour Ferry Business Coalition are uniting to keep the Balfour Ferry Landing in Balfour. Members of this partnership are working together to show that Balfour is the best choice for a ferry terminal on Kootenay Lake - economically, socially, environmentally & logistically.
Please visit the GET INVOLVED page and take a few minutes to sign our petition, write letters to key decision makers, and spread the word through social media.
Moving the ferry terminal out of Balfour would devastate the social and cultural community of Balfour. It would ruin local businesses with a likely loss of over 60 jobs and cause an annual loss of over $7 million in economic activity, plus loss of tax revenue.
Previous BC governments deemed it too problematic and too dangerous to move the terminal to Queens Bay as per former transportation minister Corky Evans who refers to the effect of wind, tide, and waves. “That’s the open lake where the wind is blowing practically from Creston"
Substantial fill volumes would be required to raise the site and cover the Queens Bay Wetlands to avoid flooding. It would impact the environment, the pure water, fish, native communities, local residents and visitors for many generations to come.
This massive construction, dredging and filling would destroy the heart of this quiet historic part of world-famous Kootenay Lake.
